Here’s another example of how black and white photos can work in a world of color. I haven’t done anything in Photoshop to it, but it looks pretty good already. In its original color form, the environment looks less arid due to color, including the appearance of a green plant. The store products in the window may distract attention from the wheel itself and show that the building is still in use.

In this piece, a black and white photo can give the subject a dry and dead appearance. We can’t see the green of the plant anymore, so it looks like it died. The color from the window no longer distracts as much attention from the wheel. It also reminds me of an old western movie set.
